Phoenix Solar builds solar power plants for Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm
- Solar power plants with a peak output totalling 477 kilowatts on the roof of a new multi-function building
- Built with Phoenix Solar’s TectoFlat installation system
Sulzemoos, 28 October 2011 / Phoenix Solar AG (ISIN DE000A0BVU93), a leading international photovoltaic system integrator listed in Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, has been commissioned by the utility company Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm (SWU) to build two solar power plants on the roof of the new multi-function "ratiopharm Arena Ulm/Neu-Ulm" building in Neu-Ulm. The roofs of the building and the adjoining multi-story car park will have solar modules installed on them covering a total area of 8.700 square meters. The peak power of the two solar power plants taken together comes to 477 kilowatts. Construction work already began in October and the plants are to be connected to the grid before the end of the year.
"The two power plants enable us to build up our regional capacity for generating green electricity. Through this measure the Stadtwerke have sent another signal for more sustainability", said Peter Wiker, SWU project engineer. Around 450,000 kilowatts of solar electricity will be fed into the public grid from the roof of the multi-function building, which is the equivalent of covering the requirements of 120 mid-sized households. In terms of climate protection, the photovoltaic plants will save on the emission of around 230 tons of CO2 a year.
Phoenix Solar‘s TectoSun 3 installation system will be used on the roof of the multi-story car park, with modules from First Solar and inverters from SMA. The roof of the multi-function building will have Suntech solar modules and SMA inverters along with the TectoFlat installation system developed by Phoenix Solar. The new installation system is suitable for flat roofs with a tilt of up to ten degrees. An intelligent connection of the mounting system can dispense with roof penetration and spread the load effectively across the roof. An aerodynamic design and optimised ballast guarantee stability for up to wind load zone 3 and buildings 30 meters high.
Phoenix Solar has maintained a branch in Ulm since 2000. Furthermore, SWU and Phoenix Solar have been partners for many years now. The power plant on the buildings of EvoBus GmbH in Neu-Ulm is one of their largest joint projects. The solar power plant with a peak power of 2.31 megawatts has been generating green electricity for almost 550 families since 2009. Phoenix Solar has a workforce of nearly 80 employees in Ulm who are responsible for the management and realisation of large photovoltaic power plants. More than 180 megawatts worth of power plant output across the globe are monitored and serviced from this location.
