Suntech received the “Global Leader Award 2011” from Murphy & Spitz in early 2011. This award honours particularly outstanding performances by renewable energy companies in the sphere of environmental, health and safety standards. Murphy & Spitz is one of the most experienced sustainable investment companies in the German-speaking world. Suntech is also a member of the European PV CYCLE Association, which manages a collection and recycling scheme for end-of-life solar modules.
In addition, Suntech was awarded the OHSAS 18001 certificate, which means it undertakes to ensure the strictest occupational hygiene and safety standards. To reduce and/or avoid industrial accidents, malfunctions, injuries and other work-related risks, Suntech places a special emphasis on health and safety precautions in all areas of its operations by implementing stringent safety and protective measures.

SA 8000 is widely recognised by trade unions and NGOs as one of the strictest workplace standards. It is a global certification scheme used by leading companies for the purposes of assessing, monitoring and influencing compliance with social responsibility. The key areas covered by this standard are health and safety, freedom of association, protection against child labour and forced or compulsory labour, protection against discrimination and disciplinary practices, fair working hours and remuneration, as well as effective management systems and their implementation. Suntech is committed to ensuring strict and sustainable compliance with these international social standards for employers, customers and suppliers. Compliance with SA8000 was audited and certified by BV International in September 2010.
